Melt in His Arms

I made note of something I read that was very profound to me. (I don’t know where I got it, so I can’t give it proper credit.) “As children of God, we long for a strong Lion we can never tame but we can fully trust.” Let that sink in a minute. When I read this, another thought came to mind about us as wives. I truly believe at the heart of every woman is a longing for our husbands to be a strong lion we can never tame but we can trust. A gentle giant. The reason this is so profound to me is, as women, we have worked very hard to be seen as strong and fully capable of everything a man is. However, we stomped and beat our men up in the process. Don’t get me wrong, I was single for a long time and am grateful for the equality in the workplace we have striven for but it’s time we stop beating our men up to make ourselves feel stronger and more powerful. If you have to stand on top of someone else to be strong and independent, then it’s just a false sense of power. Consider where your strength and power truly come from. We have placed our husbands in a difficult situation. We long for them to be our strong protector yet we make sure they know each day that we are independent and don’t need them. I am just as guilty of this as the next woman but I had to finally decide. What was the truth for me. What was my greatest need from my husband and what was I so afraid of. My conclusion was, I want to be able to lean on and lean into my husband. I want to melt in his arms and feel the protection and strength he provides. I have slowly begun allowing myself to be vulnerable enough to trust him. He’s not perfect but I do trust that he has my best interest at heart and the more I trust him and the more I let him see that I really do need him, the softer and more protective he becomes towards me. So my point is, figure out what you want from your husband. If you need him, let him know that. I am no less independent of a women just because I trust in and rely on my husbands strengths. My favorite place to be in the world, is in his arms feeling as vulnerable as a little girl in her daddy’s arms. This didn’t happen overnight. I am a very stubborn strong willed women. It took submitting to and relenting with God first. Praying for God to give me a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to Him! We are more beautiful when we are tender and inner beauty that shines through. I was only able to take that risk because I handed my heart over to God and asked Him to protect it as He softened it. I asked Him to guard my heart so I didn’t have to anymore. I chose to trust God to heal my broken heart when it gets broken...because no man is perfect and I will get my heart broken sometimes. So,if you want your husband to rise up as the Gentle Lion he is capable of, pray for God to give you a soft but strong heart and pray for God to be with your husband and help him be the husband God created him to be. And more than that, help him be that man. “A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.” Proverbs 14:1 “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.” Colossians 3:18-19
