Do I really believe?

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

I believe everyone struggles at some point with doubt in regards to God and Jesus Christ. We’re human and deal in the physical realm. It makes it difficult for us to comprehend the spiritual realm. God completely understands this, because He became flesh and walked among us, understanding the weaknesses of being a physical being. “So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.” Hebrews 4:14-15 However, there have been countless days when I am fearful because I sometimes don’t “feel” like I really believe. But hear this, that is Satan whispering in our ear. He whispers things like “You don’t really believe all of these fantasy stories of a God and a Savior. You know you’re just faking it!” This morning when I was reading scripture aloud about Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross to pay for my sins, I got teary eyed and a lump in my throat. And I thought, “Obviously down deep in the core of my being I truly do believe, so why do I sometimes feel like I am faking it?” That’s when I realized that my doubt is not in God or Jesus, my doubt is in my faith. It’s kind of similar to someone being fearful of fear itself. My faith is part of who I am, and I believe that is so for every person that ever lived. We were woven in our mother’s womb by God and within the fabric of our being is The Truth. Our soul, spirit and heart know always has! To deny it is to deny your very being and honestly denying it takes more energy and faith to do so. So the next time you think you are doubting God’s existence, remind yourself it’s only your own faith that you doubt...your ability to truly comprehend who God is. “How great is God—beyond our understanding!” Job 36:26a None of us are able to fulfill your comprehend God and His ways. Doubt is normal and understandable, but don’t camp out there. First you have to choose to believe, then, through prayer, and time in God’s Word, your faith will grow daily. In Mark 9 a father is pleading with Jesus to heal his son to show us how to be real with God and confess any unbelief and ask for help. The boys father: “...if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”...“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:22b-24 Choose. Confess. Ask. Trust. And Repeat ❤️ And no longer listen to the enemies lies. You’re heart knows the truth because God wrote it there. Trust it & be careful not to drown out the truth with worldly things. “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.” James 1:21
