Who am I Worshipping?

This morning, as I was starting my quiet time off with a prayer, I was asking God to help remove all thoughts that distract me from worshipping Him and the thought that came directly after that was “Are you worshipping me or your own life?” I don’t believe random thoughts of conviction, like that, are from me but from God. And it was a very valid question and pivotal moment for sure.
In a flash, it brought back years of quiet time with Him where my primary focus was on myself, my dreams and my plans. No wonder I have a hard time being still, waiting on God and discerning Gods Will in my life. I seem to always show up with my own ideas and plans, leaving no room for simply worshipping God and pouring out my gratitude and love to The One who has already blessed me in so many ways.
So what am I going to do with this revelation from God? I think I need to study more on what it really means to worship God. What does God want from me during my time with Him. Basically, truly focusing more on “Him” and less on myself and my plans. And practice paying attention to what God is doing, where He is already at work and join Him in “His Will” not my own.
This doesn’t mean I won’t come to Him with prayers and requests, but they need to be secondary to worshipping and praising Him! I must give Him the space to transform me into the best version of myself for the purpose of helping a hurting world…not for the purpose of having more things or accomplishing more goals for my life.
“ As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. “ 1 Chronicles 16:34
“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” Psalm 100:1-5
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Isaiah 26:3
