Why does God want a relationship with me?

Updated: Feb 1

When we take the time to read God’s Word, we will begin to see that throughout scripture God is revealing Himself to His children. His “Word”, the Bible, is for us.

So, why was leaving us with the Bible so important to God? Why was/is He so purposeful about speaking to us through His Word? What is His motive for all He tells us in scripture?

To answer that, I had to imagine I was a mom and I had children. What would be my ultimate purpose and motivation for taking time to talk to my kids often and to guide them?

It’s not because I just want them to obey a set of rules I came up with or to force them to do things they don’t want to do. My purpose would be to make sure they know how much I love them. And when they understand how much I love them, they will understand everything I do is for their ultimate good and is out of that love.

So it is with God. He wants us to truly understand how much He loves us! He wants a relationship with us...a real genuine relationship with us. Not because He needs it, because God doesn’t need us. He wants a relationship with us because He loves us and because it is the best thing for us. He created us, He loves us and He knows what we need and don’t need and the only way for Him to reveal that to us is through a right relationship with Him, through His Word and prayer.

So what is a right relationship with God? It’s one where you love Him so much that you long to please Him, follow Him, trust Him and obey Him. It’s living in a way that not only pleases Him but you find joy and peace in pleasing Him. It’s putting nothing else above Him...no person, no drug, no alcohol, no tv show, no video game, no social media platform, etc. It’s saying “God, I will begin to make getting to know you better a priority in my life. I will begin to carve out precious time to hear what you have to say. I love you more than I love to ________.”

So what are you willing to carve out of your day so you can get to know a Daddy God who loves you and only wants the best for you? Are you willing to joyfully follow Him, even if on the way to His best for you, we must go through the worst kind of hell on earth to get there. Are you willing to trust Him through that journey? That’s what faith is! Not just knowing and believing there is a God but actually “KNOWING” God and letting Him get to know you and trusting He is good ALL the time. Knowing He is good even when you lose a loved one, or if your going through infertility as a I am. I get it, it can be difficult at times. He is good and loving ALL the time, so He must know something I don’t and I choose to trust Him. I choose to trust that He is a compassionate God who doesn’t want to withhold good gifts from me as scripture tells us... “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:11 and “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” Psalm 84:11

“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:14-20

If you need help with developing a relationship with Him or even just learning how to read the Bible, let me know. I would love to help in any way I can.
